Why is learning about STEM important?

Hi everyone,

We live in a day and age when most kids want to become YouTubers, influencers or something of that sort, and that's okay. But it makes me wonder; if younger generations choose these kinds of professions, will there be enough new inventions and improvements on already existing ones to allow humanity to prosper?

These days technology is evolving so fast that it's barely possible to catch up with it. People who know a thing or two about that field will soon become the most sought after and get the highest-paying jobs.

I was surprised when I read these facts:

  • If children aren’t engaged in STEM by 5th grade, 97% of girls and 92% of boys will not be interested in learning STEM subjects
  • It is estimated that 3.5 million jobs in STEM-related sciences will need to be filled by 2025
  • Within 10 years (between 2017 and 2027), STEM jobs are expected to grow by 50% compared to non-STEM jobs
  • STEM promotes digital literacy that 90% of future jobs require

This is also something that I found really interesting:

  • 55% of teenagers say that their teachers highly influence their interest in STEM
  • Only 1 in 5 college students feel that their primary and secondary school education provided them with a proper foundation for STEM college courses.

I always knew that parents and educators had a very strong influence over how the next generations will look at STEM education since they were the ones that got me interested in these topics. But, that also got me wondering what can I do to make things easier for them.

I'm a huge fan of hands-on learning and tinkering until you make something work, but I also know that kids like playing games.  CircuitMess Batmobile is a super cool combination of this; you get to have fun while learning! What's better than that?

I can only hope that CircuitMess Batmobile will show kids (and adults) that learning doesn't have to be boring, that you don't have to be intimidated by creating something with your hands, and most importantly, that STEM is awesome!

I'm curious to know,  what got you interested in STEM?

Stay tuned for more updates!
